Off Campus

by Ford Yates

As a college student, I live for weekends. They’re my opportunity to duck the typical college scene and jump off the grid with friends. I believe the best bonds are built outside.

When that last class finishes on a Friday, I feel a sense of freedom to chase what I really love. For my group of friends and I, that’s bow hunting.

This weekend was no exception. After ten hours behind the wheel, two hours in a boat and 17 hours behind our bows, we arrived back to campus with a pile of stories and enough turkey to fill our mini fridges.

Pregame huddle.

This borrowed jon boat served as our weekend taxi.

Meet Duncan. Duncan is not a good backseat driver, but he provides the comedic relief on the majority of our hunts.

Armed.

Travis and Duncan laughing off a blown set and talking plan B.

Setting the stage. Duncan Clark lays the trap for an incoming gobbler.

Full draw foreground.

Wade Montgomery crosses the clear fork of the Brazos River with a fresh kill.

Packing up: it's surrounded by stories from the weekend and complaints from the guys with tests next week. All worth it.
